ABOUT LIMITED SPACE FOR DRUMS AND SOUND ISSUES...

Drumsets actually don't take up that much space. (basic 5pc sets). A 5 by 5 foot square in your bedroom, family room or garage will do it. Of course, if you buy a very LARGE drumset, with lots of toms and cymbals, you'll need a separate place to practice. There are practice spaces available in most cities. Drummers have also occassionally sought out storage space companies, and put there drums in there. You may need light, and it may be cramped.

The other problem is the sound. Drums can be loud! That can be fixed too. You can muffle the drums by putting cloth over the heads (towels, sweaters). Planning your practice time around the family will help, too. You can also sound proof the area using anything. Sound is like water. If you seal up the air holes (windows, etc.) you will drastically reduce the sound. Drums can be loud, by nature, but that depends on the player. A good drummer understands "dynamics" or loud AND soft. You can always play softer, and you will need to play a variety of dynamics in most professional situations, including rock and roll!

Mostly, if you take lessons (private), you will learn about these things, and be able to become an excellent drummer. If you need help finding a teacher in your area, let us know, and we will try to help.
